Frequently Asked Questions

IS THIS PROCEDURE PERFORMED BY A DENTIST?

The FDA has recently determined that teeth whitening is a cosmetic process and not a dental procedure.  Since it is a cosmetic process, we use teeth whitening technicians and not a dentist.

 IS WHITENING SAFE?

Teeth whitening is the number one patient-requested cosmetic procedure in dentistry today.  Since its introduction, millions of patients have undergone some form of teeth whitening. There have been numerous studies over the years showing that hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide based on teeth whitening systems are safe and effective.  If today’s hydrogen peroxide based teeth whitening systems were proven unsafe in any way, the multi-billion dollar industry as we know it would not exist.

HOW LONG DOES THE WHITENING PROCESS TAKE?

The actual process takes only 15 minutes.

WILL I NEED MORE THAN ONE WHITENING SESSION?

With our whitening process technology most of our clients need only one session, and see their teeth appearing 4-8 shades whiter.  Individuals with severely stained teeth may require an additional session.   Additional sessions may be performed after the initial session at a greatly reduced rate if the client so desires.

IS THE WHITENING GEL AND LIGHT SYSTEM YOU USE THE SAME AS THOSE USED BY MY DENTIST?

The products that we use are similar to those found in other offices. Due to our high standard of treatment and desired results, we use only the best and highest quality teeth whitening products and equipment.

HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?

Individual results will vary depending on the consumer’s habits and their unique dental make-up, but it is safe to say that the initial results will last the average consumer one year or longer.  Over time, and for the very same reasons that caused the teeth to discolor in the first place, the consumer will notice their teeth darkening again.

Consumers who smoke cigarettes or drink heavy quantities of dark, acidic liquids like:  coffee, tea, red wines, colas, etc. will have to touch up their teeth more often than people who do not.

ARE THERE ANY ADVERSE SIDE EFFECTS?

There are relatively few side effects from tooth whitening.  A very small percentage of consumers may experience some sensitivity during a whitening procedure.  This discomfort, which typically goes away within 2 hours after discontinuing the whitening, is minimized with our technology because we use a lower percentage of peroxide and our treatment takes less than twenty minutes minimizing long term exposure to the gel.

WILL FILLINGS AND CROWN BE AFFECTED BY THE WHITENING?

While hydrogen peroxide will have no negative effect on the integrity of fillings or crowns, the simple fact is that these materials will not whiten in any type of bleaching procedure.  However, the procedure will remove stains and clean composite dental work.

 IS WHITENING FOR EVERYONE?

Pregnant and nursing mothers, children under the age of 14, and diabetics should consult their physician prior to undergoing any whitening procedure.  Consumers with severely tetracycline stained teeth may opt for a more aggressive cosmetic procedure like bonding and veneers.
